The Echinacea Purple Coneflower, 'Echinacea purpurea', is a long lived tough perennial that withstands drought, wind and humidity and it is used for its suspected medicinal value. This easy to care for North America Native Wildflower is an excellent addition to any garden. The Purple Coneflower has 2 to 3 inch long drooping petals that are surrounded with a purple/maroon/brown conical center, 3 inches in diameter. The flowers appear on tall stems above the foliage. The bloom period is during the summer for 30 to 60 days. Purple Coneflower Echinacea will perform in full sun or light shade. In very hot summer climates, provide some afternoon shade. Well drained soil is a must for Echinacea Coneflowers as they cannot withstand standing water. Plant in early spring, 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost or as late as 2 months before the first fall frost. They make excellent cut flowers and borders>/p>
